Songbirds Spotlight…Songbirds Spotlight…will focus each month on a different aspect of our work; shining a light on specific projects and the very special individuals who work with us. It seems only fitting to start this section with the core members and beating heart of SMUK… SMUK Director and Specialist Health Musician, Dr Rosalind Hawley, is a clarinettist, researcher, collaborator and explorer of music-making; passionate about the change music brings to peoples’ lives, and fascinated by the communicative processes of musical interaction. SMUK Director and Specialist Health Musician, Mark Fisher, is a Guitarist and composer with lived experience of long-term hospitalisation and extensive experience composing music for healthcare environments. SMUK’s 3rd Director, Dr Juliet Goldbart, is Professor of Developmental Disabilities in the Psychology Department at Manchester Metropolitan University. Juliet’s vast expertise and research addresses the communication challenges experienced by children and adults with profound intellectual disabilities (ID) or complex physical disabilities. Freelance Programme Manager, Kate Catling, works with the team to manage and coordinate SMUK programme delivery. Kate is passionate about the transformative power of the arts to heal and bring communities together.
